Vekoma and Karls combine excitement, storytelling, and Karls’ recognizable strawberry world in a roller coaster.
Vekoma has built a new Family Boomerang for Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Döbeln: “Betty’s Beerchen Boomerang.” This unique roller coaster combines speed, storytelling, and Karls’ recognizable strawberry-themed world. With a track length of 230 meters, a height of 27 meters, and a top speed of 60 km/h, the ride offers a dynamic and accessible experience. The roller coaster features a single train with ten cars, accommodating 20 passengers per ride. With a ride duration of approximately 66 seconds and multiple airtime elements, the attraction combines comfort with the characteristic dynamics of a Family Boomerang. With “Betty’s Berry Boomerang,” Vekoma demonstrates how a proven Boomerang concept can be combined with theming and storytelling to create an attraction tailored specifically to the customer’s wishes.
Dynamic ride experience
“Betty’s Berry Boomerang” was designed as a Family Boomerang. The train is first pulled onto the track in reverse, after which the ride continues toward the end of the circuit. Visitors then travel the course again in reverse. This combination creates a varied ride that blends thrills and airtime with an accessible experience.
From a spontaneous idea to an iconic train
A striking element of the design is the custom design strawberry themed train. During the first design meeting with Karls' founder Robert Dahl, his office was filled with the familiar cardboard strawberry boxes in which Karls’ fresh strawberries were sold. This shape inspired us to come up with the idea for the train. Using a few boxes, a simple prototype was created, of which founder Robert Dahl was immediately enthusiastic. What started as a bold idea has been developed into a custom design strawberry themed train.
The original paper prototype has been presented to the park as a surprise gift during the official opening ceremony. Founder Robert Dahl proudly showed the original design to the media in attendance and said: “With Betty’s Berry Boomerang, we bring together state-of-the-art roller coaster technology, our world of strawberries, and our own history. This attraction embodies everything Karls stands for: emotion, family moments, innovation, and extraordinary attention to detail”.
The opening for a second Family Boomerang at Karls Erlebnis-Dorf Elstal is planned for autumn this year.
